Organization History

The Texas Association of College and University Auditors (TACUA) was established to provide a professional network and support system for auditors working in Texas higher education institutions. Founded by internal auditors from universities and colleges across the state, TACUA’s goal was to foster collaboration, share best practices, and enhance the professional development of auditors within higher education.

Over the years, TACUA has grown, expanding its reach to include auditors from both public and private institutions. TACUA plays a key role in promoting the importance of internal controls, compliance, and transparency within Texas’ academic institutions, while also providing valuable resources, training, and educational opportunities for its members.

Today, TACUA continues to serve as a leading voice for higher education auditors in Texas, helping them navigate a complex regulatory landscape while encouraging continuous improvement in auditing practices and serving as the Third Line of Defense of Texas Higher Education since 1985.
